Endodontics (Root Canal Treatment)

What is Endodontics?

Endodontics is the branch of dentistry focused on treating the inside of the tooth — specifically the pulp and root canals. The most common endodontic procedure is a Root Canal Treatment (RCT).

When a tooth becomes infected or severely decayed, the pulp inside can get inflamed or die. Rather than removing the tooth, root canal treatment removes the infected tissue, cleans and seals the space, and saves your natural tooth for the long term.

Frequently Ask Questions

Is root canal painful?

Not anymore. With modern tools and anesthesia, root canal is no more painful than a regular filling. You’ll be numb during the procedure and pain is usually gone afterward.

How many visits does it take?

Many root canals are now completed in 1 to 2 visits, depending on the tooth and infection.

Will I need a crown after RCT?

In most back teeth, yes. A crown adds strength and protects the treated tooth. For front teeth, sometimes just a filling is enough.

What if I delay treatment?

Delaying RCT can cause the infection to spread, leading to swelling, abscesses, and tooth loss.
